Visit of Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan to Nigeria (22-23 August 2022)

The Minister of State for External and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan, will pay an official visit to the Federal Republic of Nigeria (22-23 August 2022).

2. During the visit to Abuja, the MoS will pay a courtesy call on Muhammad Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He will also meet Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria and Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd), Minister of Defense of Nigeria. In addition, MoS will interact with and reach out to a cross section of members of the Indian Diaspora.

3. During the visit, the MoS will also address the Nigeria-India Business Council (NIBC) meeting with Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of Nigeria. The NIBC was officially launched by the Nigerian Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, during his visit to India in April 2022 for the Raisina Dialogue 2022.

4. India and Nigeria have always enjoyed close and friendly, deep and multifaceted relations. Bilateral trade has seen steady growth and recorded a record $14.95 billion in 2021-22. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the two countries have maintained close contact and supported each other in their fight against the pandemic. The MoS visit will build momentum for high-level exchanges and strengthen cooperation with Nigeria, both bilaterally and in multilateral forums. The MoS had previously visited Nigeria in June 2019 to participate in Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations.
