Hanoi (VNA) – The implementation of foreign affairs in the localities has achieved many important results, contributing to the overall success of the country’s external relations as well as the achievement of socio-economic development goals in the provinces and cities , said the deputy foreign minister. More than 200 international agreements have been signed between Vietnamese localities and foreign localities, organizations and companies between 2019 and 2021, he said.

Numerous trade promotion and connection activities were organized during the period, including the Vietnam International Agricultural Digital Transformation Forum 2021 and Meet Europe 2021.

Cultural diplomacy has also been actively deployed, creating a link with political and economic diplomacy. “Then Sing” was included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019, Nui Chua Biosphere Reserve and Kon Ha Nung Plateau of Vietnam were recognized as World Biosphere Reserve in 2021, contributing to promote the image of Vietnam and its people and culture to friends all over the world.

Localities have also made important contributions to the protection of the country’s borders, sea and island sovereignty. The borders and the system of national border posts are maintained, social order and security in border areas are ensured. The dissemination of information and the protection of fishermen and fishing vessels are well coordinated and implemented synchronously between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), relevant agencies and localities, creating a solid basis for gaining support of the international community.

Consular affairs and those relating to Vietnamese overseas are also a glimmer of hope, especially during the outbreak of the

There is a need to meet the needs and aspirations of localities such as the development of the digital economy, e-commerce, high-tech agriculture and clean energy, Dung said.

Advantages of localities will be fully exploited and at the same time efforts will be made to continue to seek and develop new markets with great potential for local products; calling on the international community to join hands to achieve the goals of inclusive and sustainable development.

According to the official, the 20th National Conference on Foreign Affairs will be an important opportunity for localities, Vietnamese representative agencies and agencies abroad and international partners to assess the results obtained in the implementation of foreign affairs of localities, and to propose measures to strengthen coordination and improve the efficiency of this work in the times to come.
