Sara Elcano is promoted AD Senior Assistant, External Operations
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sara Elcano was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations, Oregon State Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Barnes announced Thursday.
“We did a national search for this vital role in our athletic department and it became clear to everyone involved that Sara is the perfect person to oversee our external operations,” Barnes said. “She is highly respected nationally and has earned the trust of our external stakeholders, coaches and colleagues. I look forward to Sara playing a vital role in our leadership team. Her longstanding commitment to Oregon State and his intention to lead our outside team is impressive.”
Elcano is in his 12th year working with the Oregon State Athletic Department and has held several positions during that time. She started as Executive Assistant to the Athletic Director and has since been promoted to Assistant Director of Sports Operations, Director of Marketing and Promotions, Assistant Sports Director of Marketing and Associate Sports Director for Fan Engagement and Revenue Generation.

Elcano managed the department’s marketing and fan engagement efforts, box office operations, and ticket sales. In her new role, she will add oversight of communications, creation and management of media rights partnerships. Elcano will serve on the executive staff and as athletic supervisor for women’s cross country, women’s track and field, men’s soccer and softball.
A member of the NACMA Board of Directors, Elcano began a four-year term with that organization in June 2019. She is also an active participant on NACMA subcommittees, the NACMA Veterans Summit, and is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports.
In 2019, Elcano served as the Marketing/Sales and Communications Subcommittee Chair for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Region in Portland, Oregon. She served as the NCAA Venue Representative for Women’s Soccer, played an active role in hosting various other Pac-12 Championship and NCAA Postseason Events, and was a member of the Portland WISE Chapter Board of Directors.
She graduated from Willamette University, where she was a basketball student-athlete, with a bachelor’s degree in history. She went on to earn a master’s degree in sports administration and leadership from Seattle University.
Elcano and her husband, Joey, reside in Corvallis and have two daughters, Cora and Kate.
