MELBOURNE – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Rio Tinto has appointed Isabelle Deschamps to succeed Barbara Levi as Legal and External Affairs Director. Isabelle, currently General Counsel of AkzoNobel and member of the Executive Committee, will join Rio Tinto on October 25, 2021.
Isabelle, who has dual Canadian and British nationality, has over 20 years of experience in various senior legal positions in Europe and Canada. She joined AkzoNobel in 2018 as Group General Counsel, where she is responsible for all legal, integrity and compliance and intellectual property management, as well as the corporate secretariat. She was a driving force behind the Diversity & Inclusion program.
Prior to joining AkzoNobel, Isabelle spent six years at Unilever in the UK and the Netherlands where she was responsible for legislation and compliance for its European operations and its Food & Refreshment division worldwide. Previously, she led the legal and compliance activities of the Personal Care business while managing the global intellectual property group and spearheading legal support for e-commerce, digital and privacy.
Isabelle joined Unilever from Nestlé, where she held various positions in Switzerland and around the world. She began her career in a Canadian law firm in Montreal and is admitted to the Bar of England and Wales and to the Bar of Quebec (Canada).
