The Office of External Affairs (OAS) engages, informs and educates our partners and the public to achieve FEMA’s mission of helping people before, during and after disasters.

Our office coordinates with programs and initiatives to:

  • Tell the story of FEMA.
  • Educate the nation to be ready to face all dangers.
  • Make disaster assistance accessible and understandable to survivors.
  • Provide partners across the community with useful resources.

Through proactive and sustained engagement from public and private sector stakeholders, the BAE strengthens working relationships, advances Agency priorities and ensures that our local, state, territorial, tribal and federal partners are better off. prepared and able to recover from the effects of all-hazardous incidents and occurrences.

We regularly:

  • Engage the American public through news and social media.
  • Engage Congress, state, local, tribal and territorial governments, non-governmental agencies, and the private sector.
  • Develop and distribute digital and printed communications.
  • Coordinate speaking opportunities for FEMA leaders and subject matter experts.

Campaign ready

Ready is a national public service advertising campaign designed to educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. The goal of the campaign is to engage the public and ultimately increase the level of basic readiness across the country.
