Ministry of External Affairs – The New Indian Express
NEW DELHI: India said on Thursday it was carefully monitoring developments along its border areas, including infrastructure construction by the Chinese side in the eastern sector of Ladakh.
The comments by External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi came in response to remarks by a US military commander that some of the defense infrastructure China is building near its border with India in Ladakh are “alarming”.
“The government is committed to taking all adequate and appropriate measures to safeguard territorial integrity and sovereignty, as developments over the past few years have clearly demonstrated,” Bagchi told a press briefing.

He said the Indian government has taken various measures in recent years to develop the infrastructure along the border areas to not only meet India’s strategic and security requirements but also facilitate the economic development of the areas.
U.S. Army Pacific Commanding General Charles A Flynn on Wednesday spoke about China’s infrastructure development along its borders with India in the Ladakh sector, and called Chinese activities there of “revelators”.
“Regarding the current situation (in eastern Ladakh), we have maintained continuous communication with the Chinese side through both diplomatic and military channels,” Bagchi said. He said India will maintain dialogue with the Chinese side to resolve the remaining issues in eastern Ladakh.
