India: Visit of Minister of State for External Affairs Shri V. Muraleedharan to the Republic of Djibouti (21-22 September 2022)
The Minister of State for External and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri V. Muraleedharan, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Djibouti on September 21-22, 2022. This will be his first visit to the country.
1. During the visit, the MoS will meet with the Prime Minister of Djibouti HE Mr. Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and hold talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and other dignitaries on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest. He will also interact with the Indian community of Djibouti.
2. During the visit, agreement on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports; and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS) and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies (IDS) of Djibouti will also be signed.
3. India and Djibouti enjoy warm and friendly relations underpinned by historical and cultural ties. Djibouti had provided extraordinary support for the evacuation of Indian nationals from war-torn Yemen in 2015 (Operation Rahat). Shri Ram Nath Kovind, then President of India, paid a state visit to Djibouti in October 2017. India opened a mission in Djibouti in 2019. Bilateral trade between the two countries was valued at 755 million US dollars in 2021-22. A large Indian community lives in Djibouti.
4. The visit is expected to give new impetus to bilateral relations between India and Djibouti.
