External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar commends the European Union for tackling global challenges with sharp strategic awareness

During the inaugural session of the 6th Raisina Dialogue, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar hailed the European Union and commended it for approaching global challenges with a much sharper strategic awareness.

Jaishankar pointed to the personal leadership of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as largely responsible for the impetus given to initiatives to take India-EU relations to the next level.

He hailed the India-EU Trade and Technology Council and said, “This coordination mechanism will facilitate our collaboration on expanding trade in trusted technologies and on security.” “The European Union has already articulated an Indo-Pacific Strategy and a Connectivity Strategy which contributes to our convergence. Our conversations on climate action, digital and others are becoming increasingly serious. global challenges with a much sharper strategic awareness,” he said. added.

Jaishankar also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spearheading the India-EU partnership. “In 2015, you entrusted us with the task of creating a Make in India, Make for the World platform to discuss contemporary issues. This reflected both your confidence in shaping the global agenda and in the strength of our calling powers. It would express the rebalancing on the multipolarity that characterizes our time. This dialogue has brought about the most successful of our many responses to your calling,” he said.

“Seven years later, today we have 1,200 participants from nine nations ready to hear 100 panelists and conversations. The Raisina Dialogue is among the best in its class,” he added.

He said that among the geographic regions that partnered with this venture (Dialogue Raisina), “Europe clearly stood out.” He further recalled that the EU leader and the prime minister were co-chairs of the EU 27+1 summit in May 2021, which set new directions for India-EU partnerships.

Jaishankar expressed his gratitude to the EU leader for setting the tone for the deliberations and noted that Prime Minister Modi remains an inspiration for this India-EU dialogue.

European Commission President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and other dignitaries were present at the inaugural session of Raisina Dialogue 2022.

The 2022 Raisina Dialogue, based on the theme “Terranova – Passionate, Impatient, In Peril”, is modeled around six thematic pillars –Rethinking Democracy: Trade, Technology and Ideology; End of multilateralism: a networked world order; Water Caucus: Turbulent Indo-Pacific Tides; Communities Inc: first responders to health, development and the planet; Achieving green transitions: common imperative, divergent realities; Samson versus Goliath: the persistent and relentless technological wars.

The Raisina Dialogue, which began in 2016, is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics committed to solving the toughest issues facing the global community. The conference is organized by MEA in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF).

The dialogue, which was held virtually last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is being held this year in person.
