Meet our team

Nutrition International’s External Relations (ER) Unit is a diverse team of dedicated professionals responsible for developing and implementing advocacy and communications priorities across the organization. The unit leads, coordinates and supports global government relations, global advocacy and business development with institutional donors, as well as media relations, corporate and digital communications and the Nutrition International brand. The ER Unit works closely with other teams across the organization to develop and diversify Nutrition International’s global strategy and investment case resources, drive thought leadership, and develop global support for nutrition and at Nutrition International. Members of the ER team are located at Nutrition International’s headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, as well as our regional offices in Asia and Africa. Nutrition International is currently seeking applications for an External Relations Manager who will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

About you

You hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in international development, international relations or a related field from a reputable university or institution. An additional higher degree is desirable. 10 years of work experience in government relations, advocacy, communications, stakeholder relations or partnerships, with at least five years of experience in a leadership position and experience working for an international organization or managing initiatives with national and international audiences. Experience in international and foreign government relations as well as experience in the nutrition, health or development sector and a broad understanding of the international political, health and development context; including the concepts of impact and profitability. Understanding of the NGO environment and operating environment in South/South East Asia is an added advantage.

About the role

In this role, you will lead advocacy with Nutrition International’s key regional partners, including the African Union and its Member States, the African Leaders for Nutrition Secretariat, the African Development Bank, and the African Regional Economic Communities. Africa. Lead the planning and execution of communications activities in Africa, leveraging media, events, field missions and, specifically, effective storytelling to increase Africa’s share of voice and influence organization. Act as an ambassador for food and nutrition programs, educate and advocate departments and partners on the distinction between food/agriculture and micronutrients/nutrition. Build and maintain relationships with key Nutrition International regional and sub-regional partners, attend meetings, identify opportunities for engagement and technical assistance, and coordinate support across Nutrition International teams and geographies. .
