A New Year Brings New Stages For South Boston Speedway External

It’s a new year and new milestones loom on the horizon as South Boston Speedway turns 65e anniversary throughout 2022.

South Boston Speedway ushers in a new era with a change of management, the addition of new unseen events, new ticketing opportunities for fans, greater impetus in digital marketing and live streaming of events and a celebration of ” a month of 65 years of the tracke birthday in August.

After serving as General Manager of South Boston Speedway for the past 21 years and having been involved in operating the circuit for over three decades, Cathy Rice retired at the end of 2021. Helen Barksdale, Office Manager of longtime of the track, also retired at the end of 2021.

Chase Brashears takes the reins of South Boston Speedway, serving as general manager, and his wife, Carly Brashears, will be the speedway’s director of marketing and administration.

“South Boston Speedway’s history and tradition of being one of NASCAR’s first short tracks is well known across the country,” said Chase Brashears.
“Our goal is to take speedway to the next level, continuing to build on South Boston Speedway’s tradition of providing fans with the best of racing in a quality facility with a family atmosphere.”

Brashears will bring new events to South Boston Speedway in 2022. Drifting, a different form of motorsport, will be featured on America’s Home Track on March 5th. The fastest cars on asphalt, the 410 wing sprint cars, will visit the track. for a two-night event on April 29 and 30.

“These are new and never seen before events for South Boston Speedway, and each offers their own brand of excitement,” said Brashears.

Last year, South Boston Speedway implemented an online ticketing system that allowed fans to purchase tickets in advance as well as race day tickets on the speedway’s website. In December of last year, for the very first time, fans were given the opportunity to purchase tickets to the 2022 track events ahead of the Christmas holidays. Fans can purchase tickets for the 2022 season events at any time using the online ticketing system. The online ticketing system is convenient and provides a contactless method for fans who purchase tickets for highway events.

“We are delighted to be able to advance tickets to all of our 2022 events for sale at this early date,” said Brashears. “Our ticketing system provides great convenience for fans who like to plan ahead and avoid the ticket office lines on race day.”

South Boston Speedway is looking to expand its live streaming platform ahead of the 2022 season. The speedway began broadcasting live events in May 2021 and is looking to expand the platform for 2022. Fans across the country are turning up. are connected to different events during the 2021 season.

While the track is 65e anniversary will be touted throughout 2022, the speedway will host a month-long celebration in August that will feature vintage racing by drivers from the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club on August 6 and the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association. August 20.

The first of four special events will take place on Saturday April 2 when the SMART Modified Tour returns for the second year in a row. Last season’s SMART Modified Tour race at South Boston Speedway was a thriller as Ryan Preece fought off Chuck Hossfeld and Burt Myers in a seven-lap sprint to the finish to win the 99-lap race.

Sentara Healthcare’s American Sprint Car Weekend, Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30, marks the second special event of the season, with the track welcoming winged cars of 410 sprints for the first time.

A full list of races featuring the winged cars of 410 sprints, the fastest cars on asphalt, will be held on both evenings. South Boston Speedway’s Limited Sportsman, Budweiser Pure Stock and Budweiser Hornets Division will face off in Friday night’s action. The NASCAR Late Model Stock Car division teams of the track and the drivers of the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club will be presented on Saturday evening with the winged cars of 410 sprints.

South Boston Speedway will host its pre-July 4th showcase event – the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 presented by Grand Atlantic Ocean Resort – on Saturday July 2nd. Along with the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car Division race, the first race of the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, fans will see competitors from the Limited Sportsman Division, Budweiser Pure Stock Division and Budweiser Hornets Division in action. A training day and a fan party are planned the day before, Friday July 1.

The track will launch a month-long celebration of its 65e birthday on Saturday evening August 6 with Davenport Energy Night at the Races. As part of the event, fans will get a glimpse of the weather as Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club competitors take to the track in their Sportsman Modified and Late Model cars. Drivers from the track’s four regular NASCAR racing divisions will also be in action that evening.

The 65-month-old at South Boston Speedwaye anniversary celebration continues with Italian Delight showcasing the 65s from South Boston Speedwaye Birthday celebration on Saturday evening August 20. A full night of racing marked by 65-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division races, a 65-lap Limited Sportsman Division race and a race for the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association will be featured at this event.

South Boston Speedway will close its 2022 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points racing season with Championship Night on Saturday evening, September 4.

In another special event, the CARS Tour returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, October 22 with its competitors from the Late Model Stock Car division in a 125-lap race and its teams from the Pro Late Model divisions in a 100-lap race.

South Boston Speedway will also host a drift event on Saturday afternoon March 5 with the option to add additional events later in the season.
